Citoyenneté sociale et reconnaissance du « care ». Nouveaux défis pour les politiques sociales

Ai-Thu Dang and Marie-Thérèse Letablier

Revue de l'OFCE, 2009, vol. n° 109, issue 2, 5-31

Abstract: The aim of this paper is twofold. To begin, the paper analyses the theoretical aspects of social citizenship in relation to the recognition of ?care? and in a gender perspective. We emphasize the implications for social policies. Next, we examine how the question of recognition of ?care? arose in France. It is argued that the French regime of social citizenship oscillates between familialism and individualism on the one hand and is caracterised by both a process of familialization and defamilialization on the other hand. Finally, this contradictory evolution does not mean the ending of the maternalist strand of French social policies. JEL classification: I38, J22, Z13.
