Abstract:
Covid-19 has caused a health and economic crisis that is unprecedented in recent history. The sudden change in the way the economy works has led economists to quickly adapt their analytical tools and their economic forecasts. It was necessary first of all to understand the state of the economy in a context of great uncertainty about both epidemiological developments as well as the behaviour of consumers and business. This unique crisis is leading to a reconsideration of the key concepts of economic analysis. Four new questions can be identified: what meaning should be given to changes in the prices of services when the very notion of quality cannot be measured? How is the crisis being shared socially? How is the economy being financed? What are supply shocks and demand shocks, and what are their sectoral implications?
