Abstract:
The stake of broadcasting rights sharing between the first division football clubs in Europe and in France is first presented. Then, according to a microeconomic approach, we compare the effects of the different policies in redistributing TV rights upon the strategies of clubs in buying sporting talent. The consequences on the competitive balance of the championship and on the profits of the clubs are then analyzed. We stress the incentive aspects of the redistributing policies of the League and the main importance of the economic background (market size of the clubs, characteristics of the sporting talent market).
