Quelles conséquences d'une suppression de la politique agricole commune après 2013 ?

Alexandre Gohin

Revue d'économie politique, 2009, vol. 119, issue 4, 633-651

Abstract: While many reforms have been adopted in the last decade, the Common Agricultural Policy is still highly criticized. This policy is widely viewed as being detrimental to the development of foreign agriculture and inefficient in the support of rural areas. In the context of forthcoming debates, we simulate the economic impacts of its complete phasing out after 2013 using a computable general equilibrium framework. Our simulation results show that this policy significantly reduces the European imports of beef, corn and bio-ethanol. On the other hand, we find that its economic inefficiency is quite modest thanks to the successive reforms. Finally this inefficiency measure is sensitive to the way the different market imperfections are modelled.
