Abstract: The over-education or the downgrading of an increasingly learned workforce is a current social issue, which has been turned into a research question by different social sciences. The article attempts to provide an evaluation on the problem by developing a dense economic reference open to various contradictory discussions on both the facts and the interpretations. A scan on the proposed specific methodological tools and on the main results achieved by numerous national and international studies on the issue has been carried out. This points out various aspects of the imperfect match between the workers? education level and the education level ?required? by the jobs whose extent is still marred by considerable uncertainty. In terms of theory, the object of analysis also turns out to be especially reluctant to all attempted general interpretations. The article which produces by discussing different theory bodies, advanced by labor economics and economics of education, is likely to provide the plausible interpretations, but often, the very partial causes and the consequences of over-education.
