Abstract:
This text seeks to show how rent-seeking is altered by the institutional and political context. After a brief survey of the related literature, we focus on the impact of the features of the political system on rent-seeking activities. Since the European nations experience a common trend of reductions in the national markets protections and face various situations of protections, they provide a suitable empirical material for a cross-country study. Using the OECD measure about the change of national market?s protections within the European Economic Area, we show results of rent-seeking activities are changed by the political and institutional national context. And these changes are different in accordance with the internal or external dimension of the protections.
