Abstract:
Due to territorial and institutionnal reconstruction of the agglomeration of Montpellier, agriculture becomes an issue of the political urban project, to be investigated in the planning process. An analysis of local stakeholders shows that the agricultural issue is not mainly supported by the professionnal representatives of the sector but by the rural elected representatives and by the local staff of the ministry of agriculture. Tools implemented to describe the agricultural dynamics for the territorial diagnosis are presented, and the way they have been appropriated and used in the subsequent process of land planning by urbanists and representatives. Agriculture appears to be a specific asset of the urban territory, a resource that has to be patrimonialized in order to legitimate the densification of housing.
