Abstract:
This article deals with the development of the software industry in the metropolitan region of Toulouse. This activity has emerged above all in tight interrelationship with the local aircraft and space industry. The detailed analysis of the economic geography of the Toulouse software industry brings out the central role played by the metropolitan labor market and the local structure of inter-industry transactions. The aircraft and space industry is marked by increasing externalization of its software functions, leading to a great intensification of the agglomeration of software producers in Toulouse. Local structures of regulation evince a propensity to the formation of private-public partnerships directed to support of the industry and the correction of market failures.
