Abstract: In this paper, we examine the spatial configuration of Tunis metropolis. First, we use an Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA) in order to visualize the centrality of employment and population densities between 1994 and 2004. Second, we estimate, using spatial econometric models, three density functions, monocentric, multicentric and dispersive in order to verify the robustness of configurations gotten with ESDA. Our results show a transition from monocentric configuration, held in Tunis metropolis in 1994, to multicentric one in 2004. This situation is also confirmed by the population density function. These results match with the New Urban Economy (NEU) principles.
