Abstract:
The research question reviews the potential biotechnological ways for adding value to marine wastes, under the constraint of dependency for processing plants regarding the dependency to local territory. The first results of a survey conducted in Northern Brittany allow us to characterize inflows of seafood products and outflows of by-products. Relationship between territorial dependency and biotechnological ways for adding value to marine by-products is discussed. In this respect, increasing international trade of seafood is modifying location strategies of processors and should be taken into account. The traditional link between stakeholders (fishermen, auction markets, processing plants) has then to be reassessed.
