Abstract:
Despite some variation from region to region, demographic recovery is evident in rural areas. It is increasingly necessary to ensure the economic development of rural areas by creating and maintaining economic activities and employment. The terms ?job creation? and ?business development? are vague and their meanings rarely defined. Scientists who do use those terms tend to interpret them differently according to their own academic disciplines. This article identifies theoretical frameworks for rural job creation and business development from various academic fields via a review of the literature. From this review of the literature, a new systematic analysis model is proposed for studying the creation of jobs and businesses in rural areas. This three-part model is based on those who generate business, their support structures, and on the physical structures of the rural areas themselves.
