Abstract:
The location and the foothold of companies are the subject of constant questioning. The theories on resources and local productive systems call for the examination of the individual and collective work of territorial actors as a determining factor of productive and economic dynamics. This perspective is adopted to clarify an under-researched context, that of three rural regions in Quebec. The results of a survey conducted among 65 companies producing distinctive bio-food products show the variety of the resources mobilized by the managers, relating to the entrepreneur, the productive sphere, the institutional environment and the living environment. Among these, some appear to be more strategic during the life cycle phases of the company and refer to the setting-up territory, the territory of action and the territory of the future. Consequently, the resources associated to the living environment, including the extended family, would deserve a special attention in the analyses.
