Abstract:
In this article, the sociopolitical conditions of emergence and institutionalization of new indicators of well-being on territories are analyzed. The analysis is grounded on an experiment that took place in a French region. This experiment has produced a composite indicator applied to all French regions. The different dimensions of the social health are presented, and the sensibility of the composite indicator is tested, as far as its weights are concerned. The question of the possible uses of this social indicator is raised. Combined with an economic dimension, would it allow to bend economic and social policies, for example, to better allocate the European structural funds ?
