Abstract:
In the comparative analysis of countries macroeconomic performances, employment is a topic of reference. The aim of this paper is to provide for 2009, an empirical framework for economic performances for French departments (in terms of social performances and efficiency of labor market). First, the principal component analysis (PCA) and the hierarchical clustering on principal component (HCPC) allows us to identify and classify departments according to their caracteristics. Then, the bivariate exploratory analysis allows us to establish a map of departments according to their performances. This study highlights the heterogeneity of economic performances in France, where five categories of departments are distinguished according to a declension of performance modalities: very good, good, average, passable, bad.
