Abstract:
The present paper aims to sketch a conceptual framework to assess and verify causes of the unsustainable land development. Among major cities southern Mediterranean sea, characterized by different forms of rapid urbanization, the urban municipality ?Les Eucalyptus? within the city of Algiers serves as a case study. Thus, the assessment refers to drivers factors derived from I=PAT equation. Indeed, growth of population (P), growth of affluence or poverty level (A) and technological knowledge (T) constitute the drivers factors of impacts damaging the environment. Ultimately, the assessment allows the community and economic agents to improve the planning and management of the city and its hinterland sustainable development aligned its carrying capacities.
