Abstract: In contrast of its relative neglect in research during the 1980s, the thematic of land use has gained new interest in human and social sciences since the 1990s. The focus of recent research is put on the preservation of agriculture spaces as related to the dynamics of periurbanization, but the literature on land use covers a variety of questionings and approaches in all disciplines (though at various degrees) interested in territorial development. This paper offers a panorama of the way the land use thematic has been addressed by researchers over the last decades, and then focuses on the more recent research projects and orientations covered by the French national program ?Pour et sur le développement régional? (Psdr).
