Abstract:
We analyze the results from three randomized controlled trials conducted in France between 2006 and 2010 in order to evaluate programs aiming at providing job-search assistance to job seekers. Several conclusions may be useful for the design of programs in the future. In particular, compared to the cost, the benefits of the programs provided by private contractors seem small. Generally, the existence of important displacement effects tends to dampen the benefits of job-search assistance as an employment policy. This type of program should target specific populations, those most strongly affected by unemployment.
