Abstract:
This article provides an evaluation of the effect of a new fishing technique in Les Sables d?Olonne on the quality of caught fish using the synthetic control method and factor models. The estimations are conducted on aggregate data at the French fish market level over the 2009-2012 period. Our preferred estimator of the effect of innovation holding constant the composition of fish species is obtained with the factor model and corresponds to an increase of 16,9% in the proportion of fish with the best quality. The synthetic control method yields a lower effect of the innovation (8,3%), but it is based on an interpolation of the fish market of Les Sables d?Olonne from control fish markets which is rather approximate.
