Abstract:
Since the beginning of climate negotiations, North-South transfers of clean technologies have been considered as a complement to climate agreements. However, transfers of green technologies are politically and economically challenging, particularly since they affect the relative competitiveness of firms in developed and developing countries. We analyze how international trade and international environmental cooperation affect the incentives of developed economies to transfer their technologies to developing economies.
