Les disparités d’absentéisme à l’hôpital sont-elles associées à des différences de conditions de travail ?

Revue française d'économie, 2016, vol. XXXI, issue 4, 181-220

Abstract: This article provides evidence the extent to which working conditions explain disparities of sickness absenteeism among hospital workers (between public and private sectors, occupational groups, and gender) using detailed data on working conditions for a representative sample of French hospital workers (French Working Conditions Survey [2013]). No significant differences in sick leave claims are found between public and private hospital workers. The strong disparities in sick leaves among occupational groups appear fully explained by differences in working conditions, particularly by physical strain. Women have more sickness absence days than men, but not gender differences are observed outside maternity age.
