Les salaires minima de branche en France

Erwan Gautier

Revue française d'économie, 2017, vol. XXXII, issue 1, 94-136

Abstract: This paper provides stylised facts on how sectoral minimum wages adjust. We obtain new results on the effect of sectoral minimum wage increases on the growth of base wages in France. For that, we use a data set consisting of about 60,000 industry-level minimum wages defined in more than 3,000 collective agreements covering 365 industries over the period 2007-2016. Industry-level minimum wages have a significant positive effect on actual wages : a 1%-increase in minimum wages increases actual wages by about 0.15 percentage point (pp). This effect is three to four times higher in some sectors of the manufacturing industry but also in the construction sector.
