Abstract:
The rise in the prevalence of obesity represents a public health problem that affects all continents and generates high and growing private and social costs. To deal with this problem, several countries including France have implemented taxes on junk food. This paper reviews the recent empirical and theoretical economic literature on obesity, which suggests that junk-food taxes are an effective public policy tool to fight obesity.
