Inégalités de revenu et de patrimoine: modèles, données et perspectives croisées

Abstract: Although linked by the study of a common theme, empirical approaches for measuring income and wealth inequalities and macroeconomic approaches appear to have developed in a relatively disconnected manner. In this article, we review the origins and developments of these two literatures. We show how their recent evolutions open the possibility for fruitful dialogue, illustrated by the work of Auray et al. [2022], which examines the explanatory factors of income and wealth inequalities in France since 1984. Using a heterogeneous agent model and counterfactual analyses, this work highlights the key role of the increasing market power of firms, reforms in the socio-fiscal system, and differentiated variations in asset prices on the dynamics of inequalitie.
