Abstract:
This article analyses and compares banks as regards their evaluation of country risk. A study has been realized by interviewing country risk analysts at French banks such as BNP Paribas, Société Générale, Crédit Lyonnais and Crédit Agricole Indosuez which became Calyon after the merger, Natexis Banques Populaires, CIC/Crédit Mutuel. Results show that discrepancies exist in organization, general appreciation and analysis of the concept as well. However, a consensus has been emerging since the end of the nineties taking into account that country risk is changing and moving toward a systemic and banking risk.
