Abstract: This article explains why and how to exploit remanufacturing as a viable strategy to achieve sustainable development. It first explains the urgency to consider this issue for both ecological and legislation reasons, and then provides a literature review in the field of remanufacturing. The literature review not only summarizes important research that has been done, but also identifies three promising areas for future research: acquisition management, mechanism design and technology selection.
