Abstract:
How do ambidextrous firms manage human resources when exploitation and exploration concern highly distinct spheres of expertise? The present text presents the results of two studies conducted within STMicroelectronics and Saint-Gobain. While one might expect vastly different human resource policies in the firms, the same highly individualized, incentive-based model applies to both companies. However, the distinction which can be observed between the two firms concerns the practical implementation of HR processes and the specific roles for researchers and engineers within the enterprise.
