Abstract:
Resource-Based Theory (RBT) tends to focus on ?strategic? resources, i.e. those with VRIN attributes (valuable, rare, inimitable and non-substitutable) and therefore those resources offering a sustainable competitive advantage. In this article, we defend the idea in this article that an analysis of other resources can shed new light on the sources and mechanisms of superior corporate performance. Alongside strategic resources, we introduce and qualify the concepts of ?ordinary resources? and ?junk resources?. Then, we advance some recommendations for managers and suggest reviewing the analysis of a certain number of strategic questions in the framework of RBT.
