Abstract: Based upon a literature review and interviews of Supply Directors and Vice-presidents of large North-American companies, this study shows that when Supply?s external legitimacy is high, it is in a much better position to develop fruitful collaborations in terms of quality, costs, and innovation. This research also illustrates how Supply?s external legitimacy supports the organization?s ability to develop and manage well customer-supplier relationships.
