Abstract:
Research ethics committees first appeared in the Anglo-Saxon biomedical field. They are now progressively emerging in French management and organization studies. This essay reviews what we know about these committees and discusses how they might be imported into our discipline. We first introduce their history and their implementation in various countries, which we illustrate with two case studies from Australia and France. We then examine the many criticisms directed toward these committees. Advocating for a research ethics based on researchers? individual, collective and professional reflexibilities, this essay concludes by proposing an alternative model that balances them and the necessary procedures that have to be put in place.
