Abstract:
This article examines the effects of the health crisis on the acquisitions of multinational companies. The empirical study focuses on acquisitions conducted by French multinationals of the CAC 40 in 2019 and 2020. The findings show that, following the announcement of the pandemic, these multinationals have significantly reduced the number of acquisitions and favored operations oriented towards complementary activities and smaller targets located in mature economies. Our research highlights the reactions of French multinationals to the pandemic and enriches our understanding of the effects that exogenous shocks can have on the strategic behaviors of companies.
