Abstract:
The literature on the role of the researcher in social sciences and the links between practice and research is prolific. However, it seldom explores the case of the ?practitioner becoming a researcher? in management. This article examines this pathway, looking at pre-existing experience and identity, familiarity with the field, and the transition experience. The analysis of four autoethnographies shows that practitioners becoming researchers adopt three practices for this transition: naming themselves to establish their existence, managing preconceptions related to their field, and gaining traction for their theories by sharing their reflexivity. These results enrich existing work on preconception and offer practical recommendations for managing this transition.
