Abstract: Using five cohorts of young school leavers, covering the 1998-2013 period, we show that the crisis of the early 2000s?and especially the Great Recession?accentuate youth unemployment and lengthen the time before access to the first job, which are expected mechanical effects. However, qualification-based selectivity, the slow erosion of access to typical employment, and the age segmentation of the labor market are increasing in these crisis contexts, continuing the long-term trend that has been in place for an extended period of time.
