Pratiques comptables ordinaires et travail des femmes: inégalités sociales face à la crise en Ukraine

Abstract: Everyday accounting practices become vitally important in times of crisis. On the one hand, irregular incomes force individuals to make constant efforts to gain access to money. On the other hand, without the services of formal financial institutions, the sudden change in exchange rates and inflation make monetary savings difficult to maintain for long. Based on a piece of fieldwork in rural Ukraine, the ethnographic research presented here explains how these accounting practices rely on activities of production and exchange, which are part of women?s work in this case. The structuring of social inequalities depends largely on this work.
