Revue française de socio-Economie, 2021, vol. n° 27, issue 2, 157-174
Abstract:
This article traces the emergence of the main Belgian stock market index (BEL 20), through a review of the other indices that have been the authority on the Brussels Stock Exchange throughout the twentieth century. The study of the methodologies used and the populations represented reveals the variety of meanings?both cognitive and political?that a stock market index can crystallize, but also the reasons for the success of the BEL 20 in this struggle between ?financial conventions.?
