Abstract:
Faced with various obstacles to the promotion of renewable energy sources, one of the primary objectives of the EU energy policy, the European institutions recommended the establishment of a preferential rate to the renewable energy sources electricity (RES-E). Three incentive schemes, which focus on prices (feed-in tariff) or quantities (competitive bidding process, tradable green certificates scheme), will be implemented at national level. However, given their limited efficiency in terms of development of renewable energies and reduction of green electricity costs, they give raise the issue of their compatibility with the principles of internal market electricity supply. The directive 2001/ 77, therefore, introduced changes progressively subjecting the RES-E promotion policy to market laws.
