Abstract:
Starting from the idea that digital platforms are organizational choices, this contribution tries to provide answers to the following questions: How do contemporary theories of the firm?and in particular the approach that treats the firm as an intermediary?explain the emergence and development of digital platform operators? What are the main differences between digital platform operators and traditional hierarchical firms? Should we distinguish pure digital platforms from platforms as data aggregators? What are the consequences for regulation?
