Abstract:
This article is an opportunity to reflect on several years of experience in social science research practice, viewed through the lens of the ethical issues of data production and dissemination. We discuss some of the implications of what can be called sociological ?profiling? of populations, which consists of collecting, analyzing and publishing, in one form or another, information about ?objective? characteristics, practices or opinions of people, including data in textual form that is now widely accessible via social networks. The issues surrounding the production and dissemination of questionnaire data, the particularly significant case of data on ?elites? and more general questions relating to the dynamics of Big Data are discussed.
