Innovation et compétitivité en Europe

Bruno Amable

Reflets et perspectives de la vie économique, 2006, vol. XLV, issue 1, 15-30

Abstract: This paper deals with the question of the possible incompatibility between the European model of capitalism and the new knowledge-based economy. The European Union does not seem able to reach the objective of the Lisbon Summit, i.e. to become the world?s most competitive knowledge-based economy in 2010. The alleged responsibility of the institutions characteristic of the European model and the lack of structural reforms in this foretold failure are critically examined. The transition towards a neo-liberal model is not the only option left to European countries.
