Abstract: We study the effects of the crisis on unemployment duration at different spatial scales, that of the city of Lyon, the urban community and the urban area of the entire region. From the exhaustive files of job center, we assess the chances of leaving unemployment for each of these areas at the town level for two cohorts of job seekers (entries 2004 and 2009). We show that there is neither spatial fractures enlargement nor territorial convergence. The crisis has generally left intact the strong territorial inequalities in access to employment, leaving unchanged the need for territorial cohesion policy. JEL : C41, J64, R1
