Abstract: In first place, since the last quarter of the past century, the demographic transition build up the conditions to increase per capita income, however it did not mean reduction of poverty. Secondly, in order to achieve a significant reduction of poverty, it is necessary to reduce inequalities. And finally, the argument is that no attempts to reduce poverty have been intended, and by the other side, orthodoxies had proposed economic growth the solution to reduce poverty and inequality. But, it is shown, that even during the expansive phase, economic growth is not capable to act within the structures which reproduce poverty and it does only in a marginal way.
