Les poussées populaires des sociétés du pourtour méditerranéen accoucheront-elles d'une nouvelle modernité ?. Réflexion à partir du cas turque

Jacques Ould Aoudia

Revue Tiers-Monde, 2012, vol. n°212, issue 4, 121-135

Abstract: What are the deep roots underlying the strong wave of religious movements in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries ? According to the author, it is the blow to identity and social values that the secular groups who ruled these countries since independence have constantly inflicted on major sectors of their societies. The Islamist parties, strongly fought by these ruling classes who were supported by the West, exploited this deep resentment electorally. On the basis of this view, the author analyses the past decade of Islamic ruling power in Turkey and elaborates on the future of societies in this region. The document is unusual in its presentation : as well as classic sources, the author used not only exchanges with Turkish researchers in social sciences, but also literature : ?Snow?, by Orhan Pamuk (the author claims the right to go inside the South?s way of thinking via literature). This document also seeks to bridge the gap between formal academic approaches and those of research departments in public institutions to which the author long belonged.
