Revue Tiers-Monde, 2015, vol. N° 222, issue 2, 49-66

Abstract: This paper analyzes the link between farmers? revolts and national movements from 1919 to 2011. It provides a sociohistorical reading of farmers? revolts, their causes and their links with urban elites. Even if rural populations are ignored or not acknowledged by the latter, this study shows how the revolts of Egyptian farmers, led to protect their farming economy which was under threat, have been in the vanguard and have had a great impact on the movements of the masses in rural and urban environments.
