Abstract:
This article proposes an analysis of the impact of company restructuring on working conditions and matches these impacts with professional stress. Relying on a survey towards employees of 7 financial institutions who operated a fusion - reorganization between 2007 and 2008, we identify the main psychosocial risk factors and their contribution to stress. The survey shows that a part of the employees accumulates several factors. Among them, the stress levels are the highest. Risk factors such as the lack of autonomy, the workload or the psychological requirements are interdependent, which explains that certain categories of employees are the most impacted by the organizational change. This interaction between the risk factors may limit the control received from employees and reduce the efficiency of their coping strategies (Lazarus and Folkman, 1984). The stress level would be amplified by this interdependence of the psychosocial risk factors.
