‪De quoi les Conti sont-ils le nom ? ‪. Radicalisation des luttes sociales et restructurations financières

Pascal Depoorter and Nathalie Frigul

Travail et Emploi, 2014, vol. n° 137, issue 1, 51-68

Abstract: ?This paper examines one of the most iconic social movements of 2009 that took place in the Oise county at the Continental factory. Using the results of a still ongoing research, the authors try to understand the ways in which this social struggle has been built and radicalized. First they situate this struggle in the history of the factory and previous conflicts, and examine the conditions of the announcement of its closure. Then, the authors concentrate on the ways and means given to the fight by focusing on the actors of the movement. The goal here is to show the most expressive elements of the social critique and its forms of politicization. Finally they try to grasp the motivation of the collective mobilization which is based on a double register, both material and symbolic : financial compensation for the loss of employments and wages, and the reparation for the violence of a closure that has been experienced as an injustice.?
