Abstract:
?Using data from an ethnographic study carried out in an organization that fights against unemployment, ?Acting together against unemployment? (? ??Agir ensemble contre le chômage?? ?, AC !), this article analyzes the transformative and integrative potentials of collective action of the unemployed, particularly for the long-term unemployed, without any militant socialization. Some studies had previously described the mobilization of the unemployed as a risk of imprisonment in a marginalized status. Conversely, the present study demonstrates that, in certain contexts and under certain conditions, it can be a way to temporarily change this status. These changes are made possible through some actions that reverse the stigma. More widely, militant work enables to grant the unemployed greater social value and to develop their empowerment. These processes may lead to the redeployment of social and professional trajectories.?
