Abstract:
?At the end of the 1990s, skilled workers of the Peugeot plant in Sochaux who were also CGT trade unionists, engaged in a judicial fight to have Peugeot convicted for the professional discrimination they had been victims of for a long time. Thanks to several proceedings that broadened the fight, those unionists, helped by lawyers won over to their cause, succeeded in demonstrating the systematic character of the discrimination and its link with their trade-union ties. Their success has made it possible to overcome the repressive policy enforced at Peugeot for more than three decades. In the local trade-unionist discussions, it has provoked new debates on the articulation between career and trade-union commitment. Their success has also set a precedent within the national trade union movement.?
