Abstract:
In Franco-German comparative inquiries, vocational training and systems of employee representation are associated with institutional arrangements that foster the trust of German employees in their company. The aim of this article is to subject this thesis to a comprehensive examination based upon two case studies of multinational firms that are going through a period of organizational instability. Our findings highlight the transformation and hybridization of institutional arrangements and show that the production and cultivation of trust in both French and German companies depend on contingencies with respect to the history of their subsidiaries and the position of these subsidiaries within the multinational.
