Abstract: This paper outlines the new model for simulationof the Italian labour market produced bythe Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini FGB-MDL.The new structure is the fruit of a thorough revisionof the basic theoretical assumptions andextension of the range of variables taken intoconsideration in the previous formulations. Themodifications introduced respond to the growingneed for information support in the political-economic decision-making process, keepingtrack of the close interdependences between thevarious areas of intervention. An example of thepractical potential of the model is presented withforecast and simulation analysis of the macroeconomiceffects of the recent measures to reformthe Italian public social security system and labourregulations.
