Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to offer a possible answer to the question why developed countries have rarely encounted problems concerning their sovereign debt. With this end in view, it analyzes the particularities of public indebtness in industrialized countries (especially the OECD member states) by comparizon with developing countries, in the period after 1990. These particularities concern both the level (dynamic) of public debt and its structure, capable to offer protection to governments against some risks such as the interest rate risk, foreing exchange risk or refinancing risk.
