Abstract: The paper highlights the role of tourism in Romania as a force of economic development. It starts by a brief presentation of the components of Romanian tourism and continues by the analysis of tourism’s contribution to the GDP in the EU, and also in Romania. It further presents the contribution of tourism to exports and to the total number of jobs, indicating the connections with the other industries.
